The owner of this house wanted the most energy efficient house he could afford. After the architect designed an affordable floor plan that kept the cost of construction down, Craftsman Construction went to work. We started with an ICF foundation that has over an R30 rating, we then proceeded to install radiant heating pipes in the basement floor.
The structure was framed with 2×6 walls so that more insulation could be installed. The attic was framed with storage trusses so that the attic space was mostly useable. All sub flooring, wall sheathing and roof sheathing was by Advantec, a company that has a 50 year warranty on their products. We used spray foam insulation throughout, even in the attic because of its superior insulating and sealing abilities. Hardie Siding was used for its beauty and its low maintenance. Windows by Marvin are made with fiberglass for strength and low maintenance. To complete the energy efficiency package we installed a Geo-Thermal heating system that uses the earth as its energy source. This is a very efficient system. The home owner reports sub $100 utility bills, we were impressed.
