But here’s the problem: most contractors are stuck in the past. If you ask them why they do something a certain way, they’ll tell you “that’s the way we’ve always done it and it’s worked so far.” That’s understandable – most people do what is familiar.
But don’t kid yourself: any contractor that doesn’t keep up with best practices and the latest materials cannot deliver the best results because what is best has passed them by.
Constant improvement is in our DNA at Craftsman Construction. That’s why we spend time and money getting formal trainings and certifications.
We would never argue that experience is not important – we do have 29+ years in business after all! It’s just that experience by itself is not enough to keep up with the latest technology and trends.
It’s also important to get PROOF that a company is knowledgeable (because anyone can say it). That’s why we are happy to post our record of certifications here for all to see.
The first thing to know about our certifications is that they require real work (these are not those “pay us a fee, we’ll call you certified” deals). We have certifications from the Building Professional Institute (BPI) and typically require a week or more of online training, an additional week of classroom and field work, and the passing of a stringent classroom exam and/or a fieldwork exam.

We are also certified by the National Association of Home Builders as a NAHB Certified Green Professional. We’ve made extra efforts to stay current on the latest products and best practices for energy efficient building and remodeling.
Energy efficiency is no longer optional – that’s why we stay up on the latest. The overall trajectory of energy costs continues to go up, and that is expected to continue. We believe homeowners deserve the most energy efficient home possible to protect themselves against future increases as much as possible. We haven’t stopped there though – we also have EarthCraft Certification. This program is unique and very few builders have taken the time to learn these skills. EarthCraft building involves well-designed ventilation, effective moisture management, and the selection of smart construction materials that minimize off-gassing. This is the best way to make sure your family is breathing cleaner air. And EarthCraft techniques will also result in a more energy efficient home for you!
